Romaine lettuce, Salinas, California

The Blanco area in the northern end of California's Salinas Valley offers the finest growing conditions for fresh produce.  This view of a field on the edge of the City of Salinas is ever-changing as crops sprout, grow and are harvested, and the dark soil is prepared for the next crop.  Out of sight beyond the hills in the distance is Monterey Bay, which feeds cool moist air to the Blanco to produce premium lettuce and many other crops.  I drive by this field often and am always impressed by the dramatic play of light, shadow and color.  The only digital adjustments here are enhancements to the color and contrast to convey how I saw the scene.
